GVM Upgrades

Whether you’re carrying tools of the trade or packing up the 4×4 for a year long trip, your vehicle can become dangerous and illegal if it breaches the allocated gross vehicle mass (GVM).

The GVM is the maximum a vehicle can weigh when fully loaded. Everything you place on or in your vehicle adds to the overall GVM such as fuel, a bull bar, tow bar, recovery gear, the tray body for cab chassis models and even your passengers.

All vehicles have a legal GVM as part of the vehicle manufacturer’s overall Australian Design Rules (ADR) approval. If you vehicle exceeds these limits you could be up for a costly fine, void your insurance conditions and make your vehicle unsafe.

To combat these issues, Old Man Emu offers GVM upgrades in line with ADR requirements for a number of new vehicles.

Our new vehicle GVM upgrades are only granted by the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Transport after detailed tests have been carried out by Old Man Emu engineers. We ensure that the increase in a vehicle’s GVM following the fitment of a complete suspension system meets the minimum ADR safety requirements.

Unlike some of our competitors, all OME GVM upgrades are based on the combined front and rear axle loadings, as published by the vehicle manufacturer. This follows sound engineering principals by staying within the tested and proven capabilities that the vehicle manufacturers have established for their axles, thereby maintaining your vehicles reliability.

Once the approved OME suspension system and GVM upgrade compliance plate has been fitted to your vehicle by an authorised OME fitter, it can then be registered according to its new increased GVM. This process ensures that your vehicle is GVM legal in all states of Australia.

For registered vehicles, please contact your local ARB state office for details.

The range is progressively expanding so please check with your local ARB outlet for the latest vehicle additions and further information.
